Members of AC4Pal Did Not Want «Very Political Films», and Haneen Koraz Continues Giving Voices To
the Suffering Under Ongoing Genocide and Armed Resistance.
Published 28.09.2026
In a digital interview by Skwigly Online Animation Magazine (published September 2025), Joanna Quinn (a famous animator in the UK) revealed some of the work behind the group Animation Community for Palestine, that her and other members were worried they were going to recieve ‘very political films’ for their togazawith.love project. Contradictingly, she stated in the interview that one goal of the organization was to use art and animation as tools to «open people’s eyes and to make them interested in the politics».
Despite claiming that she has «always been very interested in the politics around the area», works within a supposed Pro-Palestine group, and states that its important to inform of the history of Palestine, Quinn chose not to educate anything about it in the interview.
It makes no sense to be worried about political expressions while at the same time organizing for creating political interest. Palestine, like everything else in the social world, is a political situation with its ongoing political changes. This perspective only makes sense if 1. the members were uncomfortable with receiving digital animated films with particular political messages or 2. the members did not fully understand the situation which they are trying to organize for. Regardless, this worrying of political expressions in response to a political reality should be discarded when trying to organize artistic and economic support for the suffering in a political situation.
According to Quinn, the group was initially formed to support palestinian animator Haneen Koraz economically. Haneen Koraz, displaced from her home, is living in a refugee camp in Gaza, and has been hosting workshops to aid free artistic expression of women, children, and people with disabilities, suffering under the zionists’ man-made famine and bombings. This is Koraz’ words, according to her brother’s fundraiser page:
«I deeply believe that every person has the right to express himself freely, and that art, making and learning cartoon films is one of the means of free expression, audio-visually, for all segments of society. I tried to change the reality, even if just a little, for the children and women in the tents I have conducted workshops specifically for children. Children and women draw, color, discuss, play, learn using the photography program, photograph scenes, write stories that express their suffering and reality, draw cartoon characters, and record their voices on film. They have created many cartoon films. There is a film called “Queens” that talks about the suffering of children in the tent, how they live, and how they overcome the problems of water and fire, bringing firewood and bread, and not playing. The women made a film called “Red Autumn,” which talks about how the women left their homes, belongings, and rooms and migrated to other regions for fear of war, and how they lost their valuables and memories during the period of displacement.»
The lives of Haneen Koraz, people with disabilities, the children, and the women clearly work to artistically express their suffering and survival within a brutal political reality. This reality of Gaza is the decades-long destruction of infrastructure, bombing, shooting, kidnapping, torture, and forced displacement imposed by a racist colonial project, supported by imperialist nations (including the UK). The obvious political message against this reality is the message of breaking the blockade, ending apartheid, and ending the zionist colonial project.
It is good that animators organize to give economic support to Koraz, as well as using their craft to express love for the palestinian people. However, if animators are to organize real support for palestinian animators, and all palestinians, they must also accept and help spread expressions which address Palestine’s political reality. The most important one being the following: as the zionist’s armed brutality, and the imperialists’ funding, continues and intensifies against the Palestinian people, the palestinian people’s civil and armed resistance is growing, intensifying, and needs to be supported.
